Welcome to the Emergency Care Foundation
To date there has been limited research undertaken into the many facets of emergency care, leaving many important questions unanswered of both a medical and administrative nature. Unfortunately neither hospitals nor health boards fund this. The Emergency Care Foundation, set up in December 2003,  primary focus is ‘leadership’ in Emergency Care.

The treatment a patient receives in the first few minutes often determines whether they live or die. The Emergency Care Foundation provides vital funding for research and equipment into improved accuracy and better decision making in emergency care. The Foundation relies on donations, grants and fund raising.

Our Mission Statement :

To help ensure that Emergency Care is the best it can possibly be.

News

What a great start to the year for The Emergency Care Foundation. So far this year The Canterbury Community Trust have approved, for the sixth year running, a grant towards our health research nurse's salary to continue the invaluable research into pulmonary embolisms. This will enable doctors to identify the condition, should it be presented at the Emergency Department and also reduce intrusive tests.

“It is not that the men of the Middle Ages who believed in unicorns
were less intelligent than we are; their intelligence was turned in a different direction...”
Odell Shepard

It has always been the source of mystery and speculation. Chinese writings of the unicorn date back as far as 2800BC. The beast's horn was thought by medieval scholars to have magical healing properties – able to purify poisons and prevent disease. However strong beliefs of its existence held for thousands of years only started to crumble with the advent of scientific thought.

While the myth may have been put to rest the symbolism that surrounded this mighty creature lives on.
